UCT – IDM Reception

UCT IDM Reception Interior Design – Urban Spaces

Client: University of Cape Town (UCT)
Location: Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine (IDM), Faculty of Health Sciences, Observatory
Industry: Science and Research

Urban Spaces recently completed a bespoke reception interior design for the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine (IDM) at UCT. This project demonstrates how interior design for academic and research institutions can enhance both functionality and user experience.

From the outset, the brief required a welcoming yet practical space that reflects the IDM’s reputation for innovation. Our team responded with a custom-designed reception that integrates smart layout solutions and elegant finishes, tailored specifically for a university environment.

A curved reception desk forms the centrepiece of the space, drawing visitors in and creating a smooth, intuitive flow. We added private call booths and flexible work zones to accommodate a variety of visitor and staff needs. Slatted timber screens introduce privacy without closing off the space—striking the balance between openness and discretion.

Careful selection of materials and textures ensures durability and sophistication. The result is a refined, professional environment that supports the IDM’s research-focused mission.

Delivered on a tight timeline, this interior installation reinforces our commitment to efficient, high-quality work. Urban Spaces is proud to contribute to the University of Cape Town’s continued leadership in science and healthcare.
